Welcome to another exciting “Get to Know” post featuring Leo Wilson. Leo completed his BE in Electronics and communication from Namakkal. He’s worked as a Web Developer and graphic designer at CloudQ for the past three years. He loves playing games.
How do you prefer to start your day?
I check my emails and also check for previous days’ pending works. I also try to prioritize my daily schedule. I normally wake up early and try to spend some time with my friends.
Are you an early bird or a night owl?
I am an early bird and so work in the early part of the day. It helps me get my work done.
What’s your go-to productivity trick?
I ensure that I have a to-do list daily and allot an ample amount of time for every work depending on the priority. Prioritizing work also helps me stay productive.
What do you enjoy most about working with CloudQ?
I would say that we have a great team, and the employees here are really friendly and amazing work culture.
What behavior or personality trait do you most attribute your success to, and why?
Staying positive, hard work, and staying updated on the latest technologies related to my career helps me stay successful in my job.
What was your first job?
Web developers in Ogilvia technologies in Trivandrum for one and half years.
What energizes you at work?
Music helps me relax and clears my mind when work becomes difficult. I normally listen to some good music which helps my mind detox and helps me work better with renewed energy.
What’s one thing that surprised you about working at CloudQ?
When I started my career with CloudQ, the biggest surprise I had was cooperation and teamwork among the employees and the managers. The work culture is amazing here as everyone is helpful despite positions.
Would you mind giving a brief overview of your job here at CloudQ?
I work for the marketing department of the company. As a web developer, it’s my responsibility to ensure our company website is updated, runs at optimal speed, has no UX design glitches, etc. I also help develop and design client websites. I also do graphic designing and poster designing for marketing content for social media platforms.
Explain what are the key responsibilities of a Web Developer?
Web developers design and build websites. They are typically responsible for the appearance of the site and technical aspects, such as site speed and how much traffic the site can handle. Web developers may also create site content that requires technical features.
They are sometimes known as web designers or full-stack developers if they can do both front-end and back-end development.
If it’s a new website, we need to send design layouts, frameworks, domain names, languages needing to be used, and database suggestions to clients. Once it’s approved, I can work toward building the website.
How would you communicate progress on web development projects to clients?
I normally arrange to review meetings every week, or whenever required, with the clients. It’s all about 2-way communication with clients and the developers for resolving their queries and requirements at optimal times.
What specializations in web development interest you?
I am interested in the admin part of the website. I like handling the database of the website.
What programming languages are you proficient in?
I am proficient in JavaScript, HTML5, PHP, etc.
How do you ensure websites and applications are accessible to users?
You have to purchase a domain name for the website and hosting services. We have a mockup website for the clients to approve the design and layout. Once the domain and hosting are finalized, we send out the website live for the end-users.
What tips do you have for future web developers?
Ensure you always are learning and updated with upcoming technologies. Also, hard work is the key to all kinds of success.
How do you prefer to end your day?
I like to flag uncompleted tasks and prioritize them for tomorrow. I like to unwind by watching movies or playing games.
