About: Meet Ronia John, a dedicated Salesforce QA Analyst at CloudQ, where she ensures the seamless performance of Salesforce solutions. With a background in technology and a passion for quality assurance, Ronia plays a pivotal role in delivering reliable and efficient Salesforce implementations.
In this interview, Ronia shares her journey into Salesforce QA, the challenges she faces, and the insights that drive her commitment to excellence.
1. Can you share your journey into Salesforce QA and what inspired you to pursue this career path?
My journey into Salesforce QA started with my fascination for technology and a desire to ensure software performs seamlessly. I was first introduced to Salesforce as a tester and quickly became captivated by its unique testing scenarios, like validating workflows and creating test cases. After upskilling through Trailhead, hands-on projects, and collaboration with developers and admins, I realized Salesforce QA is the perfect mix of my testing skills, curiosity for business processes, and passion for continuous learning.
2. What’s one area of Salesforce testing that’s often underestimated but makes a huge difference in project success?
Integration testing is often underestimated but plays a crucial role in ensuring Salesforce interacts effectively with other systems. Identifying integration issues early prevents larger problems down the road.
3. What do you enjoy most about ensuring quality in Salesforce implementations and custom solutions?
I love ensuring that everything runs smoothly for users. It’s rewarding to catch issues early and help deliver solutions that meet business needs. There’s nothing more fulfilling than seeing a project go live without issues.
4. How do you typically begin your day to stay productive while testing across multiple Salesforce orgs and environments?
I start my day by reviewing my task list, checking for any updates or issues from the previous day. I prioritize my testing based on deadlines and environments, and I keep detailed notes for each org, which helps me stay organized and focused.
5. When faced with complex test cases or unexpected bugs, do you prefer diving straight in or taking time to assess first?
I prefer to take a moment to assess the situation first. Understanding the issue’s scope and potential causes helps me strategize effectively. Once I have clarity, I dive in with a focused approach to resolve it.
6. If you had to describe your approach to Salesforce QA in three words, what would they be?
Thorough, proactive, reliable.
7. Can you walk us through a particularly challenging Salesforce project and how you ensured quality at every stage?
One challenging project involved integrating Salesforce with several third-party systems. I created detailed test plans with both positive and negative scenarios, tested step-by-step, and maintained clear communication with the team. Regular testing and collaboration helped us deliver a seamless, reliable solution.
8. What part of your role as a Salesforce QA gives you the most fulfillment or excitement?
I find fulfillment in knowing my work contributes to a seamless user experience. I love resolving issues early and ensuring everything functions as expected. Seeing a project launch smoothly, knowing I played a part in its success, is incredibly rewarding.
9. Do you have a quote, mantra, or personal habit that helps keep you motivated during long testing cycles?
Yes, my mantra is: “Quality is never an accident; it is always the result of intelligent effort.” This reminds me that every test, no matter how small, contributes to the overall success of the project. Staying organized and taking short breaks also helps me maintain focus and stay refreshed.
10. If you could work remotely from anywhere in the world as a Salesforce QA, where would you choose and why?
I’d choose to work from home, as it offers a peaceful environment, beautiful nature, and reliable internet. CloudQ’s work-from-home option allows me to work efficiently while enjoying the balance of productivity and relaxation.
11. As a woman in tech, what has your experience been like, and what advice would you give to other women entering the Salesforce QA field?
My experience has been empowering and fulfilling, although not without challenges. I’ve found a supportive network of women and allies who motivate each other to succeed. My advice is to trust your abilities, keep learning, seek mentorship, and never hesitate to ask questions. Your unique perspective is valuable in the tech industry.
12. Who is a female leader—either in tech or outside of it—who inspires you, and why?
There are actually two of them who inspire me deeply: my mom, Rosily Johny, along with my sister, Roshiny Ditto. Their strength, resilience, and constant support have always been a driving force in my life. They’ve shown me the true meaning of hard work and perseverance, and their example has taught me to stay determined and give my best, no matter what challenges come my way.
13. What’s a fun hobby or skill you enjoy outside of work that helps you recharge?
I enjoy bottle art and going on long journeys. Both activities help me unwind and recharge after a busy workweek.
14. If you weren’t a Salesforce QA, what other role in the Salesforce ecosystem would you be curious to try—Admin, Developer, or maybe Consultant?
If I weren’t a Salesforce QA, I’d love to try the Salesforce Admin role. I’m interested in learning how to configure and manage Salesforce to meet business needs, giving me a broader perspective of the platform.
15. How do you celebrate a successful deployment or the resolution of a critical bug?
I celebrate by taking a moment to appreciate the team’s efforts. I might play a favorite song, take a deep breath, close my eyes for a moment, and relax to recharge.
16. What advice would you offer to someone just starting out in Salesforce QA?
For anyone starting out, focus on the basics: understanding Salesforce features, workflows, and practice testing. Ask questions and seek guidance from experienced colleagues. Stay curious, keep learning, and embrace new challenges!
