The Metaverse is a Bunch of Hooey

the metaverse is a bunch of hooey

Hello, and welcome to another post on the Metaverse. If you’re anything like me, you’re intrigued, curious, and excited about the potential of a virtual world with oodles and oodles of possibilities for business growth and interaction. That’s not the opinion of several people though, as it turns out. So, today, we’re exploring thoughts and influence, and how the latter comes with great responsibility. Buckle in, grab a cup of something warm, and get ready to learn a few things.

As you may already know (if you’re a regular visitor—and you should be), CloudQ hit the Inc. 5000 list for the 5th year in a row. We headed out to the Inc. 5000 conference in Phoenix, AZ, and we were excited to listen to the speakers there. One of them surprised me when they called the Metaverse a bunch of hooey but then stepped back to say how AR is the future. (Quoting a big-name company, perhaps?) If any of you have read my earlier articles on the Metaverse, you’re now laughing so hard your face hurts. But! That this particular person is misinformed about, not only what the Metaverse IS, but also being someone who has so much influence over the thoughts of others, are only a couple of the pieces of my worries.

Because AR is as much a part of the Metaverse as VR, this person was obviously not only uneducated about something they were speaking on, but they also encouraged the closing of minds to new ideas, processes, and embrace of emerging technology. These things can be dangerous in the tech world, where innovation and imagination are the capstones of profitability and growth.

Last week, I ran upon another person with a lot of influence who was openly and publicly saying how awful it would be if Lightning Source (an independent book publisher) offered an NFT of a book alongside a paperback or hardcover version of the book.

Several authors who didn’t understand what was being talked about, but had heard high-level information about what NFTs are and how they work, immediately jumped on board and were naysaying the idea of the NFT. They simply weren’t open to understanding and weren’t interested in embracing this new thing because they feared the unknown, and someone they trust to have their backs publicly decried the use of this new, emerging technology.

This is the most dangerous avenue anyone building a business can venture down. You become antiquated and irrelevant at the speed of light. You must keep up with the emerging technology to succeed in this space. If CloudQ hadn’t jumped into the Salesforce arena when we did, we’d be so far behind now that we’d never catch up.

The same will be true with the Metaverse. Whether you choose to throw your weight into AR or VR, you need to pivot and start thinking about how you’re going to do that now. I’ve been in the Metaverse, at someone else’s home base, and I played a game there. Let me tell you, it was mind blowing. Already. This technology is still in its infancy, and as the technology improves, the Metaverse will only get better.

All this to say: Even if you think you understand something, dive deeper and do more research before you publicly decry that it should be shunned. Have facts at your disposal. Maybe you don’t know as much as you think you do, and maybe your advice causes someone else to close their eyes and turn away from something that could’ve changed the world or boosted their business into the stratosphere.

The Metaverse is AR; it’s also VR. It’s gaming, learning, and ease-of-life-making technology. It shouldn’t be ignored.

Embrace the future.

Thanks for reading, and I hope you got something out of this short article that gets your neurons pumping and the ideas flowing. It’s only through innovation and dreamers that we’ll see the best of what the Metaverse can be. I invite you to stick around and poke through some of our other posts on this topic. You won’t be sorry.

Until next time!
