1. Can you share your journey and what inspired you to become a Software Quality Analyst?
After completing my MCA, I started my career in a call center as an International Business Process outsourcing Agent. When I was working in the call center, I tried to find a job that was related to my industry. At one point, I got the opportunity to work as a Web Developer at Uniprotech Solutions Pvt Ltd., but at that age, I wanted a challenging job where I could get more opportunities to apply my knowledge, and also, I wanted to learn more. Then I became a Testing Engineer and implemented my skills in improving the quality of products and services.
Later, the quality became my inspiration. Quality is the most important thing in today’s world. The work of Quality Assurance is all about making the product quality better and taking care of all the processes that were created by the developer. The role of QA provides stability, growth potential, and satisfaction for the client, and this leads to the production of high-quality products and services. Likewise, wherever I got the opportunity, I chose and started to work in some reputed organizations. At Foxhouse – Chennai as a Software Associate, and then after in Al-Kadi Commerce & Industries – Saudi as a Testing Engineer. As of today, I am at CloudQ as a Senior Software Quality Analyst.
2. What’s one aspect of your expertise in software quality that most clients or teams might not know but should?
Critical thinking – This pattern of thinking will lead the clients or teams to rectify the potential issues in advance. This critical thinking skill is very important to design an effective test to assure quality products and services.
3. What do you enjoy most about ensuring the quality of software solutions for businesses?
Finding more/minor bugs which cannot be found by the client.
4. How do you start your day to ensure a productive and focused mindset for testing and analysis?
To ensure productive testing and analysis, I always used to identify the activities that will have the most positive impact on my work. On the other hand, to have a focused mindset, most of the time I ask questions for myself to get answers for complicated tasks.
5. When faced with challenges during software testing, do you prefer a proactive or reflective approach?
Generally, I prefer to be proactive, but according to the situation, I prefer to blend both the proactive and reflective skills. Blending both approaches will enhance the quality of testing on big-picture concepts rather than small matters.
6. If you could describe your quality assurance style in three words, what would it be?
Enhancing work processes.
7. Can you tell us about a particularly complex project you’ve worked on and how you ensured the software met all quality standards?
“MassSave” – This is my first project in this company. As a beginner, it was too difficult for me to complete the tasks, but I accepted the challenge, and I was able to give my best result with the help of my seniors’ guidelines. This is the one which gave me confidence in my current role and initiated me to work hard and smart.
8. What aspect of your work as a Software Quality Analyst energizes you the most?
Accepting every task as a new challenge, especially last-minute changes in requirements.
Commonly, last-minute changes in requirements occur during tight schedules. Within a shorter period, it caused me to take more and more testing. Sometimes, this leads to thinking smart. In my view, last-minute changes will ensure that existing functions are not broken by the new changes. So this energizes me the most to ensure my success.
9. Do you have a favorite mantra or quote that keeps you motivated during challenging testing phases?
“All testing phases experiences are helping me to grow myself.”
10. If you could work from anywhere in the world as a Software Quality Analyst, where would it be and why?
The USA.
The US market has a substantial need for Quality Analysts across various industries, and it is indicating stable career paths.
11. What’s a non-work-related skill or hobby that you’re proud of, and how does it influence your professional approach to quality assurance?
Football! When I play football, I have to run continuously, according to the actions of opponents. I have to act promptly and have team collaboration. Also, it gives a good workout for the mind and body. In the same way, most of the time I practice in my profession, too. Playing football helps me to be self-motivated. Likewise, I have to continuously test new developments. According to the result of those development tests, I have to test and provide solutions. In this scenario, I am concerned about negative results as my opponents. Without good team work, it’s hard to get a goal. Same as that, when I approach quality assurance, I engage with my team.
12. How do you prefer to celebrate a successful software release or a big professional milestone?
Acknowledge the mentors and role models who helped me to grow professionally. Just by sending a note of appreciation, I can show them my gratitude, and I can make them feel proud.
13. If you weren’t a Software Quality Analyst, what other profession do you think you’d excel in?
I am interested in dancing and acting. If I had not become a Software Quality Analyst, I would have been an actor.
14. Who has had the biggest impact on your career, and what’s the most valuable advice they’ve given you?
One of my former seniors, Milind D. His words were, “Sudharman, you are a quick learner, and if you want to go to the next step in your future, do whatever you want to do.” He never hesitated to clear the doubts, whatever I asked of him.
15. Do you have any evening routines or rituals to unwind after a busy day of testing and analysis?
Spending time with my son.
16. What advice would you give to someone just starting as a Software Quality Analyst?
Focus on your targets, try to learn as much as quickly as possible, and always try to work under minimum supervision.
