Goods In the Metaverse

Hello, and welcome to another post on the Metaverse! Today, we’re talking about types of goods, or purchases, you can make in the Metaverse and what that looks like. Grab a cup of something cold (it’s hot out there!), get comfy, and let’s get going!

If you remember our post on real estate in the Metaverse, you’ll have an idea of what kinds of goods we’re talking about today. If you haven’t, let’s sum up: intangible items on the blockchain or items within a game.

There are a ton of things you can purchase on the blockchain, but in the Metaverse, those things become a bit more skewed. While a purchase on the blockchain is something you’ll have forever, some of the goods in the Metaverse are actionable items. That means they can be used, and once they’re used, they’re gone.

This can include credits for games, extra lives, and things of that nature. Let’s break some of this down through examples (not a comprehensive list) so it’s easier for you to understand.

Things you can own (blockchain items):

  • Property
  • Houses
  • NFT Art
  • Clothing
  • Décor
  • Music
  • Books
  • Members Only Passes
  • Cryptocurrency
  • Etc.

Things you can use (instant/actionable items):

  • Extra Lives in a Game
  • Admission Tickets to an Event
  • Credits for Purchases In-Game
  • Cryptocurrency
  • Drinks
  • Snacks
  • Powerups
  • Etc.

Some of these things can only be purchased with specific kinds of cryptocurrency (Sand, Mana, Ethereum, Etc.), so you need to learn what you can and can’t buy with what you have or need.

Right now, the Metaverse needs creators. These folks can be artists, programmers, or people like them who understand basic needs and living requirements. Think about all the items in your house, and understand that someone out there, somewhere, had to design it; now think about the fact that someone had to manufacture it. This is where the artists and programmers come into play.

There are tens of thousands of people working on those exact things right now to bring you goods you can purchase in the Metaverse. Some of those items are already live. You can currently buy a house, decorate it, and visit.

Best of all, you can do this without a VR or AR device. Decentraland can be accessed via a computer. All you have to do is go here: create an account, or click to visit as a guest, make an avatar, and get cracking!
